The Lavra Nezlamna Foundation, in collaboration with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, has identified two main projects on which further work will focus.

Both areas have a common purpose: to preserve the history of life engraved in the walls, images, and symbols of the Lavra.

These projects were not chosen at random. They stand at the crossroads of time — between the past, which needs protection, and the future, which this heritage must serve.

‘Gateway to Time’

The first key project was the restoration of the monumental painting ‘Monastery Walls’, located at the central entrance to the National Reserve ‘Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra’.

This painting is not just an artistic element.

It is an image of spiritual history that greets everyone who enters the territory of the shrine. This is where the journey begins — a journey of memory, faith, and awareness of the depth of our culture.

The project was symbolically named ‘Gateway of Time’ because, through these walls, generation after generation entered the space where Ukraine’s spiritual and cultural identity was formed.

Preserving this painting means:

protecting unique monumental art;

preserving authentic meanings;

passing on the history of life without distorting it over time.

‘Revival of the Watchtower’

Project to restore the Onufriivska Tower

The second strategic area of work was the project to restore the Onufriivska Tower, one of the Lavra’s important defensive and symbolic structures.

The Onufriivska Tower stood guard over the shrine for centuries.

It was part of the defence system, a symbol of resilience and responsibility to future generations.

The project was named ‘The Revival of the Watchtower’ because its goal is not only to physically restore the structure, but also to restore its role as a living symbol of protection and service.

The restored tower should become:

a preserved architectural element of the historical ensemble;

a reminder of the power of continuity;

an example of how history can live on today.
